#12: Stalled Progress & Productivity Dilemma

Weekly Updates
I got another YouTube video out, and I got another module inside the community I launched recently.
But besides that, outcome-wise, I didn’t really do much, which is frustrating.
I probably created over 100 pieces of content that I could batch and schedule out for the next couple of weeks.
But I’ve run into some issues with some of the social platforms I recently set up.
I won’t name them, but they’re not exactly making my work easier for me. I have three weeks of content that I can’t post because I can’t access my account for whatever reason.
That’s something I’ll have to figure out.
Overall, it definitely feels like progress stalled to a certain extent…
Productivity Dilemma
I was trying a new version of a system that I had used for a couple of months about a year ago, when it worked with my schedule. Now I’m trying again to see if I can work it back into my current routine.
It’s not bad overall. I just spent the first few days working out the kinks, which made me a little more inefficient on those days.
But I’m in a bit of a dilemma.
It’s about taking advantage of Parkinson’s law.
It says that work expands to fill the time available for its completion.
What I’ve found is that it’s very effective when I have an actual hard deadline and a consequence.
The balance has been trying to figure out how to create those consequences without doing something unsustainable or burning myself out.
One thing I’ve started doing is giving myself a certain block of time (just a couple of hours) to get a few key tasks done in a particular domain.
For example, lead flow-related tasks would be one domain, miscellaneous tasks another, product would be another.
I give myself a set amount of time to make progress in each area, then don’t allow myself to work on the same category of tasks until the following day.
That’s been effective in making me pretty efficient while working in those blocks.
However, I also like the idea of having a daily highlight of sorts.
Something that I can check off my list for the day that actually moved the needle forward.
There are other tasks that I just have to get done on particular days, which don’t actually drive meaningful progress (e.g. sending certain emails).
My issue with this restricted time approach is that sometimes I don’t finish any of the tasks I start in a given day, which is annoying.
But with the highlight system, sometimes it takes the entire day and I don’t get it or anything else done.
It’s entirely possible that I’m subconsciously working slower on my highlight because I technically have the entire day to get it done.
So I’m trying to find a solution to this.
I’m all ears for suggestions.
But yeah, overall, I didn’t get much done this week, and I’m not happy about it. Moping around isn’t going to do anything, so I’ll just have to do better next week.
I’ll see ya then. I’m confident I’ll have better news to share 🙂
P.S. Regardless, I’m still not going to lose the optimism, and I don’t think you should either if you’ve been feeling down lately!
